Well, I guess I should say something about this picture. That's me doing the smok'n. This was taken about a week before leaving for Oregon and Sunnyridge. Jimmy and Erin are my comrades. Compared to this generation's bud, the typical weed was pretty swaggie.

The kid? Erin Miley (Tom Miley's little girl with Donalee)

From   Ted, on Aug 26, 1998

Pictured on the left is Jimmy Hacket. I've known him since my days in New Paltz, NY. He, and Jimmy Swensen and Donalee and Tom frequented a house out in the country. We all experimented with the psychadelics of the time and suffice to say it is amazing the Hacket is still around.....

From   SIG, on May 11, 2000
Jimmy still looks young here; within a few years, he looked like The Old Man in the Moon. But he always looked good to me.

British Study Warns of Health Danger of Cannabis
Mon Nov 11,12:32 PM ET

LONDON (Reuters) - Smoking three pure cannabis joints is as bad for your lungs as smoking 20 normal cigarettes and marijuana is more dangerous now than it was in the 1960s, British researchers said on Monday.

In what it described as a shocking new report, the British Lung Foundation (BLF) said tar from cannabis cigarettes contained 50% more carcinogens--the agents that produce cancer--than tobacco.

"Three cannabis joints a day cause the same damage to the lining of the airways as 20 cigarettes," it said in a statement.

It also said the health dangers of cannabis have substantially increased since the 1960s because today's marijuana has increased amounts of a key chemical compound.

Campaigners for the legalization of cannabis disputed some of the findings.

"Saying that cannabis is stronger now than it used to be is like saying that orange juice is stronger these days," said Alun Buffry, spokesman for the Legalize Cannabis Alliance.

"I smoked stuff in the 1960s which was certainly stronger than what's available now and, anyway, when it's stronger, people smoke less of it."

BFL chairman Mark Britton said: "These statistics will come as a surprise to many people, especially those who choose to smoke cannabis rather than tobacco in the belief it is 'safer' for them."

"It is vital that people are fully aware of the dangers so they can make an educated decision and know the damage they may be causing," he said.

The BFL stressed it was not taking a moral stance on the contentious issue of legalizing the drug.

"We're not trying to say 'smoke' or 'don't smoke' cannabis," BLF Chief Executive Dame Helena Shovelton told BBC Radio. "We're saying that if you do, understand the risks involved in doing so.

"Don't have the same situation we had with tobacco, which was years of denial about the problems," she said.

The BFL urged the government to implement a public health education campaign on health risks of the drug.

Of course, cannabis-lovers are going to think this type of report is propaganda--or, funnier still--some sort of "plot." What a disappointment when we find out that what we thought, in our self-made wisdom, was not as terrific as we wanted to believe. I feel sorry for people who think that life on the natch isn't high enough. Seemingly, they haven't worked through the issues that are bringing them down....Bottled water may be junk; recycling may create more problems; saving species may be futile--where oh where can we find lasting peace and fulfillment?

Very strange that after years and years of studying the
effects of pot smoking, various government agencies could
never, never, NEVER find any adverse affects. But with
more and more people using it medically(that's how bad
it is for you) and more and more states and especially
our good neighbor Canada wanting to outright legalize
this wonderful HERB, I was definitely not surprised to
see that 'study'. The powers that be, will not lose control
over us that easy. Yes, they LIED, and certainly will
lie again, when it suits their purpose.
As the Rastafarians said on TV a few years back
"God gave us GANJA to smoke and enjoy!!!
Have a nice evening, everyone, Smoke and enjoy!!!!!

So who gave us tobacco? Cocaine? Heroin? Arsenic?

From:     suez     11/14/2002     7:53 P.M.

Tobacco, cocaine, heroin, and arsenic all have useful qualities if used, not abused. Any substance can be abused. The answer is not to ban or moralize about them, but education on their usefulness. "Just say no" will never work as has been shown over and over with our famous "War on Drugs." Seems amazingly obvious from here.

Study Warns of Health Danger from Carrots

Anyone who has ever eaten a carrot has either died or is expected to die, so says a study by the just about anyone who has an imagination.

From:     Catch-22     11/14/2002     9:26 P.M.

Yes--"Just say no" is a bit simplistic. The question is: What are people looking for in drugs that they can't find without them?

From:     Ted (Mr. Know-it-all)     11/15/2002     6:31 A.M.

We all want to get high.
Bliss is a yearning built into soul.
Without help we are left with drugs and vain pursuits.
With help we shed the bummers
to reveal the ultimate high
that has always been here.

the question isn't "what are people looking for in drugs that they can't find without them"? the question is...............................................................................what was I going to say? shit, better have another toke.........oh yeah, the question is why, after 30+ years of studies, do they all of a sudden come out with such a drastic result to marijuana use? really, think about it. they knew and always have known how dangerous tobacco is. I know how dangerous it is without their countless studies. I watched my father wither away from emphyzema, and a stronger man there never was. now, was it from smoking 3 packs of mentholated cigs a day for 40 years or from the marijuana he smoked? hmmmmmmm, I'd have to go with the cigs. also, if it wasn't for his marijuana use, he would have passed away many years before he did, and the life he did have with the emphyzema would have been much harder to live with. now, out of the clear blue, we are informed marijauna is filled with 50% more carcinogens and causes 7 times more damage to the lungs than tobacco? the question should be how is an entire generation of marijuana
users still standing and breathing? we should by all rights be 6 ft under, or if nothing else we should at least be
bent over and gasping for air, beating each other away and tripping over each other in a vain attempt to be the firt to reach dr.kavorkian so that he may put us out of this coughing, hacking, drooling state of marijuana hell!............also, an inquiring mind might ask why a study with such drastic results, one that literally puts half the population at serious risk, doesn't get a passing mention on any of the news networks, indeed why it was pulled off the one news source that even bothered to air it in so short a time. my god, three people get west nile disease and it's all you hear about for three weeks.the networks live to bring the public the latest dire news, so what was wrong with this story?.........also, that question of "what people are looking for in drugs that they can't find without them" can apply to anything we do in life.
"what does climbing mount everest do that watching it on television can't provide? that would have to be up to each individual to figure out for themselves. to each his own right? peace.

I just wanted to know, how is it living in the commune? A friend and I hate the idea of conforming to the US socitety. Basically, we dont wanna be robots! We are giving a great deal of thought to joining a community such as yours. But, like all things, we need to know more about it to make an official decition.

I know this isn't a drug (herb) support group, but, I want to tell you about my dear wife. She's been a chronic pot smoker for 20 years. She is truly addicted (yes, weed's addictive). She awakens each day after only about 5 hours of sleep in order to start her daily coughing fits. She claims that pot helps her relax, eat, sleep, feel better, and enjoy damn near everything... dependency. It can really get you. I can't pursuade her to quit, but I know it's going to kill her. Sorry to harsh your buzz...
